I created an animated music video for Dr.Dew, for his song titled 'Itchy & Scratchy'. He envisioned the animation to mix live action camera work with found footage, and asked me to blend these together using hand drawn animation techniques. This deliberate pastiche reminded me of the cut and paste style of graffiti, often repurposing existing imagery to give it new meaning. I decided to research the rise of street artists in the 1980's and the longstanding connection between graffiti and hip hop as a means of self expression. As a result of my experimentation, the film draws on a combination of techniques from lo-fi hand held camera work to digital collage and effects.
